Hudson Valley Hurricanes named to Youth1 Softball's Weekly Elite top 10.

(Youth1 Softball) – This week officially kicks off our Softball Weekly Elite – Top 10, where we will be highlighting our pick of the top 10 teams of the week. Hudson Valley Hurricanes Elite 14U (Hudson Valley, New York)Entering our Weekly Elite at No.10 are the girls of the Hudson Valley Hurricanes Elite 14U. The team recently finished an impressive 3rd at the 16U Save 2nd Base Tournament by going 5-1 overall. Pitcher’s Kelsey Oh, Sarah Gunderson and Reese Guevarra combined for 41 strikeouts on the mound, only gave up three walks, and allowed for just four runs against over the course of six games. Full of power hitters, catcher Megan Sneeden produced eight RBI’s, Sarah Gunderson had eight hits, Emily Nishiwaki produced seven hits, while Deangie Jimenez had two triples, two doubles, and six RBI’s. Kelsey Oh muscled three doubles and five RBI’s, and Alicia Bertolino produced six hits. The team’s on base percentage was just under .500 and the team now looks towards taking the top spot at the 18U Trump Fall Showcase (October 20-21) in Chester New York, and event that looks to be heavily scouted by D-1 coaches. This powerhouse of a lineup includes, Alicia Bertolino, Reese Guevarra, Sarah Gunderson, Deangie Jimenez, Emily Nishiwaki, Carol Oberhelman, Kelsey Oh, Taylor Sullivan, Amanda Schweitzer and Gabby Palumbo. 9. Firecrackers AZ 14U (Litchfield Park, Arizona)Sitting at 6-0 during the Fall 2012-2013 season are the girls of Firecrackers AZ 14U, out of Litchfield Park, Arizona. Collectively, the squad had produced 62 runs while allowing just two in their first tournament of the season at Ready to Rumble. The Firecrackers squad includes, Katelyn Acton, Arianna Antone, Lauren Besse, Sydney Broderick, Hailey Busby, Sabrina Elemen, Kara Golden, Hannah Krosky, Isabella Loomis, Leah Molina, Kodi Ramirez, Kayla Wibel and Briana Wilbur. 8. Cal Crossfire (Lafayette, California)Sitting at 10-1 overall, the girls of Cal Crossfire out of Lafayette, California have really stepped up their game early on this season. The team picked up a 2nd place win at the 2013 Remember 9/11 tournament (5-1) where they scored 39 and allowed 18. The team recently claimed No.1 at the 14/15U Aussie Sparks Pool Play Challenge by going an undefeated 5-0, while scoring 40 runs and allowing just 14 against. The 2013 Cal Crossfire lineup includes, Isabello Catalano, Derby Gill, Frankie Hammoude, Julia Hughes, Naomi Lopez, Brittney Martinez, Aliza Newman, Katie Pagaduan, Hannah Rosenfeld, Mariah Schuchart, Molly Seibel, Meuy Tang, and Gabriella Zagone. 7. Vienna Stars 14U (Alexandria, Virginia) Coming in at No.6 are the girls of the Vienna Stars 14U. Currently sitting at 13-2 overall, the girls continue to move up in success. This season, the Vienna Stars have finished 3rd at the Potomac River Clash NIT (3-1-1), 2nd at the Heartbreakers Fall Classic (4-1), and 1st at the Field of Screams (6-0). Collectively, the squad has pushed a combined 93 runs, while allowing just 43 runs against. Led by team manager Dave Neuhart, the 2013 Vienna Stars includes, Victoria Capllonch, Katie Cressey, Zoe Dobson, Stephanie Fosness, Elanor Mataya, Erin Murray, Avery Neuhart, Patricia Ohanian, Jacqueline Orebaugh, Serenity Stewart, Kayla Turner, and Brittany Wieland. 6. Quad City Firebirds (Quad Cities, Iowa)Coming in halfway through our countdown to the top, are the girls of Quad City Firebirds, out of Quad Cities, Iowa. Sitting at 13-0 overall, the team is already World Series qualified for 2013, and is also 3-0 vs. 16U teams. The squad also sits undefeated with three 1st place finishes including the August in Peal City (3-0), NS Lighting Fall Frenzy (6-0), and most recently at the Quad City Fall Classic (4-0). Collectively, this team of heavy hitters has produced 129 runs, while solid defense has kept the total number of runs against them down to just a mere 20. Led by manager Dana DeKeyrel, this powerhouse 14U squad includes, Kayla Altemeier, Faith Anderson, Madison Banks, Ashley Barker, Maris Boelens, Alexis Dekeyrel, Andrea Figg, Erika Hammond, Brittni Lafountaine, Kaitlyn Markin, and Spenser Strandgard. 5. Kayne County Xplosion 98 (Batavia, Illinois)At No.4 are the Kayne County Xplosion girls out of Batavia, Illinois, who sit at an impressive 15-4 overall. The team has had a strong start so far this fall, which include a 2nd place win at the USSSA WS Qualifier Fall Freeze Out (5-2), a 1st place finish at the 5th Annual Dupage Ultimate Softball (5-0), and most recently a 3rd place finish at the Illinois Gold 2nd Annual USSA Fall tournament (5-2). Collectively, Xplosion 98 has produced 166 runs while allowing just 60 against. Managed by Rick Lovestrand, this 2013 roster for the Kayne County Xplosion 98 squad includes, Sarah Baurer, Margaret Cohrs, Brieann Cruz, Antonia Galas, Bailee Krantz, Gabriella Lopresti, Rachel Lovestrand, Kaitlyn Plocinski, Annika Radabaugh, Madeline Rydholm, Alyssa Snider, and Morgan Weber. 4. Eastern Iowa Barracudas 98 (Muscatine, Iowa)Coming in at No.3 are the girls of Eastern Iowa Barracudas. This powerhouse squad is currently 16-3 overall on the fall season, is 5-0 vs. 16U teams, and 4-2 vs. 18U teams. The team is also already World Series qualified for 2013. The Barracudas have really stepped up their game, picking up a 1st place win at the FPOS Nationals (7-0), a 2nd place finish at Fall States Championships (4-1), and a 3rd place finish at the Mount Mercy Fall Classic (4-1). This team of heavy hitters has also pushed across 130 runs, while only allowing 51 against. Managed by Bryan Butler, this 2013 lineup incudes, Lea Brunssen, Jessi Butler, Amber Fiser, Bryn Hanrahan, Cheyenne Hansen, Amber Kral, Jessica Puk, Abby Rusch, Anna Stenberg, Kenady Waugh, Mikayla Weber, and Allison Wroblewski. 3. Team Iowa Force (Central Iowa, Iowa) At 19-5 overall this fall, Team Iowa Force really is a force to be reckoned with. This World Series qualified team picked up a 1st place finish at the Beaverdale Fall League (5-0), a 2nd place finish at FPOS Nationals (5-3), a 9th place finish at the 5th Annual Altoona Fall Shootout (4-2), and most recently a 1st place finish at the Fall State Championships (5-0). The squad has also produced an impressive 134 runs thus far. Managed by Jen Slauson, Team Iowa Force includes, Laura Anderson, Kila Carbine, Riley Holmgren, Miranda Hughes, Kennedy Kracht, Emma Kuel, Bree Lesch, Jade McLean, Erin Miklus, Andi Miller, Haylie Olson, Ally Pickering, Gabriella Ridgeway, Lorena Rodriguez, Faith Santee, Kate Slauson and Shelby Tipling. 2. Ashburn Shooting Stars Gold (Ashburn,Virginia) Sitting at an impressive and extremely respectable 23-3-1 overall, the Ashburn Shooting Stars Gold out of Ashburn, Virginia have picked up three first place finishes. These No.1 finishes include wins at the Red Raider SoftballFEST (5-0), Potomac River Clash NIT (5-1), and at the Heartbreakers Fall Classic (4-0-1). The squad recently finished 2nd at the BRYC Fall Classic (4-1). Also known for their power at the plate, the team has collectively pushed 173 runs across the plate while keeping the run total against them down to just 56. No stranger to being No.1, the Ashburn Shooting Stars Gold are coming off a highly successful 2012 season, after taking home the 1st place hardware at both the 2012 USSSA 12U East World Series, and at the 2012 USSSA 12U Virginia State Championship. The squad also finished the 2012 season with 103 wins, 24 losses, and three ties. Decked in pink, the Shooting Stars will be taking on Phoenix, WHC Fever, and the 16U Crushers this weekend at the 16U Crushers Fall Frenzy in Nokesville, Virginia where the team looks to keep their winning tradition going. Managed by Rick McCarty, this 2013 lineup includes, Alexis Ballve, Samantha Carver, Kayla Castro, Mackenzie Fisher, Allison Kreyer, Grace Mattimore, Emily McCarty, Mackenzie Meyer, Amanda Nee, Olivia Overton, Kailey Shannon, Michelle Sullivan, and Kiera Womack. Oro Valley Suncats 98 (Oro Valley, Arizona)Coming in at No.1 are the Oro Valley Suncats, who hail from Oro Valley, Arizona and currently sit at a highly impressive 30-1-1 overall. The squad had a 1st place finish at the 16UA Arizona Future Stars tournament (6-1), and since September, has had four 16U 1st place championship finishes. Most recently, this powerhouse squad claimed No.1 at the 16U Gold Glove tournament. Led by Todd Judge, this 14U 2013 lineup includes, Kayla Wilson, Mackenzie Judge, Randy Longville, Brianna Druke, Carli Campbell, Isabel Pacho, Anna Felix, Alison Smith, Jenna Martinez, Brianna Hardy, Kylie King, Madison Judge, Sarah Northam, Brittany Campbell, Mara Kemmer, Marissa Schuld, Kaitlyn Anderson, Hailey Tanori, Nicol Ley, Shae Bushey, Malaea Lani Roca-Fraser, Arianna Acedo, Marina Acedo, Miranda Carley, and Reina Bondi.
